The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the 35-acre wildfire was about 50 percent contained as of around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The fire was burning near Pine Park and the Lakewood Country Club.
Clearstream Road remained closed between Brewers Bridge and Hope Chapel Road as crews continued their work. To combat the flames, crews have deployed fire engines, bulldozers, a helicopter, and ground teams to the site.
Six buildings on Seminole Drive were threatened when the fire first started on Monday, Nov. 18. NJFFS said no buildings were threatened and no evacuations had been ordered as of the Tuesday morning update.
This fire follows a series of wildfires across New Jersey in recent weeks, highlighting persistent risks tied to drought conditions and strong winds.
In Burlington County, crews were also battling a 40-acre wildfire in Hainesport that was about 50 percent contained. NJFFS said 20 buildings were first threatened by the flames but none were at risk as of press time.
Earlier this month, the Jennings Creek wildfire burned more than 700 acres near the New York State border. The blaze sent smoke over North Jersey and took nearly a week to reach 90 percent containment.
In South Jersey, a wildfire in Glassboro burned through a significant area last week, creating what one TikToker called "apocalyptic" scenes. Thick, black smoke triggered 911 calls and carbon monoxide alarms.
Smoky conditions from fires in the Hudson Valley drifted into North Jersey on Sunday, Nov. 17, causing hazy skies and air quality concerns for residents.
The cause of the Lakewood Country Club wildfire was still under investigation and the next update was expected at around 6:30 p.m.
